I dunno, I have a soft spot for anything Karate Kid related. I think in overseas markets the movie was accurately named “Kungfu Kid” . The reason why the US title was kept at Karate Kid was in order to keep the relationship between its parent movie, the original Karate Kid. It’s pure marketing and I don’t think they had the intention of being racist. In the movie, I don’t think anyone ever says the word “karate”. It’s referred correctly as gongfu. Don’t think Jackie Chan would let that happen.

But on the other hand, Last Airbender was a travesty and is reeking of racism and whitewashing just as the Prince of Persia is. In PoP, they had the opportunity to cast a real Persian prince with acrobatic abilities. Instead Hollywood picks Gylennhal for sales reasons (his action scenes are atrocious). Anyway, I loved the loved the Nickelodeon cartoon. I was really close to watching Last Airbender (on my own too) but decided against it not because of the whitewashing but because of the lack of the apparent Momo and Appa.

but yeah.. watch Karate Kid because Jackie Chan is the man!

On the plus side, Avatar has been pretty universally condemned as being a horrible movie… It has like a 8% rating on rotten tomatoes…
