15 days till I’m with half the familia!! Annnd the countdown to humidity begins… :)

So as we stress about finals and some of us freak out about the immediate future aka post grad dilemmas, here are some tips from a blogpost to optimize your performance and stay somewhat sane in case you don’t want to go through the whole article :) :

1) Expose yourself to repeated, productive stressors just beyond your comfort zone, with non-stressed recovery periods

Dienstbier’s article suggests that toughening in one area of stress will carry over into other areas. He offers aerobic exercise as an example of a productive stress activity that can help condition the body’s stress responses. When those responses become conditioned, they will affect the body’s response to many different kinds of stressors.

2) Separate creative and complex processes from performance pressures

He said that while straight-forward decisions are best left to traditional pros and cons, the best way to make a creative or cognitively complex decision is to “distract yourself with something else, and then come back to the problem.” Creativity and complex decisions are the realm of the subconscious mind. “While we have been distracted,” Brooks tells us, “your unconscious [mind] has been filtering it all, and will come to the right decision.” — thats what I do!
Rather than introducing incentives, pressures or deadlines, we need a non-stressed, pleasantly distracted environment to give our subconscious minds room to work on more complex and creative problems. Therefore, when one receives a project, it’s best to think about it immediately and deeply, so as to give the subconscious mind time to ruminate before deadlines come due.

3) Manage your own expectations — a huge problem of mine

Most of the pressure that inhibits us is self-pressure, and if we think about it, only a small fraction of that self-pressure is justified in order to motivate the results we want. The rest just gets in our way.

4) Ease up on the melodrama and the over-analyzing –
Melodramatic thinking and mental chatter form a feedback loop with stress triggers. If you’re psyched out about something, your body will release stress hormones. When you feel the effect of the stress hormones, you have a constant, nagging reminder that you don’t feel right, which further psyches you out.

5) Now that you’ve learned all these details, forget them

How Pressure and Stress Are Affecting Your Performance Some years ago, a Princeton psychologist named Sam Glucksberg brought a group of test subjects into a room. In the room was a table positioned against a wall. On the table was a book of matches, a box of thumbtacks, and a candle. “Your job,” Glucksberg told his subjects, “is to attach the candle to the wall in such a way that when it’s lit, the wax will not drip onto the table. I will be timing you, and I will use your results to establish averag … Read More

Polypore updates

Went to Maine yesterday to shoot the Polypore title scene. Kittery Point was beautiful, getting there felt like island hopping. It took us 3 hours to get there. I’m going to sound spoiled but it was BRUTAL waking up at 8a.m on a Saturday morning! Our hosts were wonderful people and I had the pleasure to meet award winning writer, Joyce Tracksler. The house was right by the ocean and had a pretty nautical theme going on, much like my office villa in Vietnam (courtesy of a French Captain)!

Anyhoo my role in the movie is tiny, I play the daughter of the Japanese scientist, Dr.Mobuko. The story takes place in Japan, Spain and the U.S. The last  scene I was shot in was at the Butterfly Conservatory in Western Mass and embarrassingly enough, one of the stills from that shoot made it to the business cards for the film (which I’m going to hand out next weekend in Manhattan). I look very grudge-like. Its going to be weird passing out cards with my face on it.  The cast that were shot yesterday today were hilarious and there was a lot of yelling, conversing and cursing in multiple languages which I loved. I was the only amateur there (I’m an actress by default) so shooting for me was mad awkward, don’t expect too much out my debut lol. Oh and I have a few lines, a lot of sad eyes… you’ll have to see for yourself when it is released =). Production is wrapping up soon so watch out for updates as Polypore is to be ready by this year. So excited to see it all come together!!

One of the scenes we shot yesterday:

=D In semi wake of Spring my friend…

=D

In (semi)wake of Spring, my friend sent me this picture from New York, I think its in BK.

The swans are adorbs!! Its so serene and calming , just what I need in spring’s conjunction with hellweek, more like hellweeks.

Whiskey G1ass will be having its launch event on April 29th 2011 @ Hudson and West 10th!! I’m sooo excited and overwhelmed! Financial Accounting has officially taken over my life. Just took the last quiz and turned in the 2nd take home exam. The problem with loving your professors (which is a first time for me, I like all my professors this semester.. normally I could care less) is the annoying pressure to impress them b/c you don’t want them to think you’re an idiot. This is the busiest (academic) and almost the most stressful semester I’ve had in my education career -_-.

I’m sad I couldn’t make it to Coachella (as a college student) BUUUT can’t believe summer is so close!! Few more weeks till I’m in the humidity of Bangkok eating fresh fruits and shopping with my sistas. And babysitting my soon to be new-born niece/nephew =D. I guess thats the light at the end of my tunnel for now. And the romantic shot of the swans below :)

This is so powerful

watch it.  remember it.  act on it.

—-

my promises:

1. i will try to not buy outsourced goods.  this will be difficult, but i will remember to check tags, look for fairtrade logos, and shop at thrift stores.

2. i will not succumb to capitalist selfishness when i enter the workforce.  whatever i choose to do, i will remember the importance of social justice.

3. i will continue to fight (whether it be about sex, race, labor, etc), and do what i can to educate others and myself.

4. i will never give up. and i will never forget.
